Polymaker Launches HT-PLA Pro Filament with Enhanced Toughness

Polymaker has introduced HT-PLA Pro, a heat-stable PLA filament designed to overcome the brittleness and poor layer adhesion of conventional high-temperature PLA materials.

Polymaker has released HT-PLA Pro, a new filament engineered for improved performance at elevated temperatures. This material aims to address key limitations found in standard high-temperature PLA, specifically its tendency towards brittleness and weaker layer adhesion.

Developed using Polymaker's nano reinforcement and heat stability technologies, HT-PLA Pro offers a significant upgrade in mechanical properties. Compared to regular HT-PLA, it boasts more than double the notched Charpy impact strength, measuring 9.94 kJ/m2 versus 4.94 kJ/m2. Additionally, layer adhesion is improved by approximately 30%, with Z-tensile strength increasing from 20.8 MPa to 26.8 MPa.

The filament maintains the heat resistance characteristic of the HT-PLA family. Its Vicat softening temperature is 148.3°C as printed and 150.5°C after annealing, as per ISO 306. Following a 30-minute anneal at 100°C, HT-PLA Pro achieves a heat deflection temperature of 107.6°C at 0.45 MPa, measured according to ISO 75.

Designed for widespread use, HT-PLA Pro can be printed on standard FDM printers without requiring an enclosure or a hardened nozzle. It supports print speeds up to 300 mm/s and utilizes familiar PLA printing settings, including a 230°C nozzle temperature and a 25-65°C build plate temperature. HT-PLA Pro is available in 18 colors.
