Phase3D and Phillips Federal partner to expand defence manufacturing inspection

Phase3D and Phillips Federal have formed a strategic partnership to expand the availability of Phase3D’s advanced manufacturing inspection technology within the North American defence sector. Phillips Federal will act as Phase3D’s exclusive channel partner for the defence market, enabling the company to reach more organisations, depots, and manufacturing programs. This collaboration builds on Phase3D’s existing work with the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence and the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

Phase3D’s in-situ inspection technology allows for real-time defect detection during the manufacturing process, helping to reduce material and machine time waste while improving part yield. The technology has recently been extended to ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), which are increasingly important in next-generation propulsion and thermal-protection systems. This extension is supported by the Department of the Air Force and is expected to enhance manufacturing efficiency for critical defence components.

Phillips Federal’s involvement brings valuable relationships and manufacturing expertise to the partnership. According to Tim McClanahan, President of Phillips Federal, real-time inspection provides greater process visibility and allows for earlier defect detection, ultimately improving throughput and reducing costs for defence customers.
