Norwegian AM Producer Slashes Documentation Time with Quality Software
AM North has significantly reduced its project documentation time from eight hours to under two by implementing amsight's quality management software, addressing a critical bottleneck in its certified production processes.
Norwegian additive manufacturing company AM North has adopted amsight's production-level quality management software, dramatically cutting its documentation time per project from approximately eight hours to just 1.5–2 hours. This move addresses a scaling challenge within AM North’s certified production, where quality evidence was previously compiled manually from various sources like Excel, Word, PDFs, and paper records before customer delivery.
Launched in 2023 to help northern Norway industrial operators transition to digital inventories and on-demand printing, AM North initially focused on the oil and gas sector. The company has since expanded its reach into fish farming, defense, mining, and both domestic and international markets. This growth, however, highlighted the limitations of its paper-based quality record system, which struggled to keep pace with increasing certified production work.
Jan-Inge Kongsbak, Managing Director at AM North, explained the necessity for a unified system that could integrate machine output, build details, test data, and process steps. Manual tracking proved insufficient as certified work volume escalated, particularly due to stringent DNV certification standards requiring rigorous traceability, testing records, and supplier confidence documentation. amsight’s platform now centralizes data from planning, build jobs, machine monitoring, post-processing, and inspections, applying predefined acceptance criteria to ensure consistent and recorded results.
With the new software, documentation is captured sequentially throughout production, eliminating the need for post-production compilation. Kongsbak emphasized that the value extends beyond time savings, reinforcing customer confidence in AM North’s commitment to quality, traceability, and transparency. amsight CEO Tim Wischeropp noted that this adoption underscores a broader industry trend toward proving quality across the entire process chain, not just part production.
This development highlights the critical need for robust quality management software in scaling certified additive manufacturing. By automating documentation and ensuring data integrity, AM North is demonstrating that AM can meet rigorous industry standards, moving it beyond a "hobby technology" perception.
