FARO Creaform Adds Four HandySCAN 3D Scanners for Diverse Inspection Needs

FARO CREAFORM, a business unit of AMETEK, announced on July 8, 2026, the introduction of four new handheld 3D scanners, augmenting its HandySCAN 3D product line. The expansion includes two additions to the MAX Series and two new models in the EVO Series, designed to handle inspection requirements for objects ranging from small components to parts measuring up to 15 meters in length.

The new MAX Series scanners, the HandySCAN MAX EVO and HandySCAN MAX EVO Elite, integrate the EVO platform's interface and workflow capabilities for large and complex geometries. These scanners are engineered to maintain the accuracy essential for quality control, quality assurance, reverse engineering, and non-destructive testing. The MAX EVO offers a volumetric accuracy of 0.150 mm + 0.020 mm/m, targeting product development. The MAX EVO Elite achieves higher precision at 0.075 mm + 0.010 mm/m, suitable for inspection and NDT applications demanding stricter tolerances. When used with the optional Mobility Kit, these MAX Series scanners can operate wirelessly, reducing the need for fixed workstations. Both models have undergone testing in ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories and comply with the VDI/VDE 2634 standard.

For smaller parts, FARO CREAFORM has launched the HandySCAN EVO and HandySCAN EVO Plus. These models feature an integrated on-scanner display and guided workflows, simplifying everyday inspection tasks. The EVO Series previously received a Red Dot Design Award for its user interface, a design that has now been extended to the new MAX models. The Elite versions of both lines, the EVO Elite and MAX EVO Elite, incorporate QR code reading functionality to expedite the setup of inspection programs.

All four new scanners are compatible with the Creaform Metrology Suite. Jérôme-Alexandre Lavoie, Director of Product Management for 3D scanners at FARO CREAFORM, stated that the evolution of the HandySCAN 3D family demonstrates a commitment to making metrology-grade 3D scanning more intuitive, mobile, and efficient. FARO CREAFORM was established in January 2026 as a business unit combining the 3D measurement operations of FARO Technologies and Creaform under AMETEK. This integration unified their hardware and software portfolios, a strategy now reinforced by the common interface and software suite across the new HandySCAN additions for both small and large-part inspection.
