AM Solutions Launches S1 Basic for Smaller AM Labs

AM Solutions has unveiled the S1 Basic, a new automated depowdering tool aimed at making its post-processing solutions more accessible to a wider range of users. This unit is specifically designed for lower-volume facilities, such as university labs, prototyping centers, and research environments where space may be limited.

The S1 Basic is engineered for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technologies, including Multi Jet Fusion (MJF). It can process parts up to 100 × 100 × 100 mm in an automated cycle, with manual processing capabilities for parts up to 350 × 200 × 200 mm. This 2-in-1 system integrates both cleaning and resurfacing functions, streamlining the post-processing workflow by eliminating the need for separate equipment for these steps.

Beyond depowdering, the S1 Basic also performs shot-peening on parts. The company anticipates that the automated cleaning and resurfacing process will deliver consistent and repeatable results for users. The unit features a chamber size of 740 x 650 x 830 mm, with the overall machine dimensions measuring 1800 x 800 mm, and can handle approximately 7 liters of parts per batch.

The system incorporates an integrated blasting media recirculation system with powder separation, designed to maintain high blasting media quality, ensure reproducible processing outcomes, and reduce operational expenses. AM Solutions highlights that its process leaves less residual powder on parts compared to alternative methods. The S1 Basic utilizes a Siemens S7-1200 PLC and features an optimized user interface and workflow for ease of operation, with a noise level of 75 dB(A) and integrated antistatic gloves for safety.
